A Survey on the Activites of Some Industrial Health Nurses in Seoul, Busan and Taegu Area of Korea

Abstract
|
|
|
A survey on the activities of the industrial health nurses at 214 industrial plants in Seoul, Busan and Taegu area was carried out from Aug. 30, to Sept. 30, 1974. The results of the survey wore summarized as follows:
1. There were 132 industrial plants (61.7%) having nurse´s office and 82 industrial plants (36.3%) having not nurse´s office.
2. The 20~24 years age group of the subjects of industrial health nurses was 51.4%.
3. Regarding the educational background of the subjects, graduates of high school were 49.5% and graduates of nursing school were 25.2%. Almost half of them were unqualified as a nurse.
4. Allocating their daily activities in average, first aid was 35.9% and health teaching was 7.6%.
5. Regarding the employees´ frequent request of nurse´s services, first aid was 35.5% and health teaching was 5.6%.
6. As to nursing activities in nurse´s office, 4.7% of the total nurse´s offices did not carry out physical examination for employees 65.0 % of them did not attend in service training on industrial health and 68.7% of them didn´t carry out home visiting in average.
7. Regarding the budget of nurse´s office, the smallest amount was 100,000 won or less for an industrial plants of 400 employees and the largest amount was 2,000,000 won or more for an industrial plants of 3,142 employees. 74.3% of the total nurse´s office had insufficient budget.
8. The reason for arranging insufficient budget in case of 51.9% of the total industrial plants was due to the fact that lack of understanding in the important role of nurse´s office.
9. An average, 35.0% of the total nurse´s offices had 10 or less patients in a day and 7. 1% of them had 100 or more patients per day.
10. Regarding the motive to work as an industrial health nurse, 44.4% of them responded that they were introduced to a job by other person and 9.3% of them wanted by themselves.
11. Regarding the job satisfaction as an industrial health nurse 56.1% of term satisfied while 43.9% of them were dissatisfied with their job.
12. Justification to satisfy with the job, 46.7% of them thought that their job is meaningful and 12.5% of them thought that their pay is reasonably high.
13. .Among those who were dissatisfied with the job, 38.2% of them wanted to work at hospital, 38.3% of them wanted to work as school nurse and 12.6% of them wanted to work at the government office.
14. Regarding their difficulty with their job, 24.8% of them thought that the industrial plants does not understand the importance of their work, 21.5% of them thought that the industrial plants do not fully cooperative with their work and 4.2% of them thought that their working hours were too long.
15. Regarding their opinion how to solute their difficulties. 33.2% of them wanted to have opportunities of periodical learning, 17.8% wanted administrative support and 14.0% wanted independent function of nurse´s office.
